i do mean the policies introduced since Michael Howard although I’m not sure I’d say they were welcome. Thanks for the link to your criminology experience- maybe you should read David Garland’s Culture of Control– it should give you insight into what criminology can be (in terms of eschewing ‘raw data’ at least) and providing a new view of the world as well as explaining what I mean by the ‘punitive turn’.
